Book review: Forbidden Knowledge

The full title of this book is Forbidden Knowledge Information They Don’t Want You to Know (Fifth Edition). It is compiled by Robert E. Bauman and published by the Sovereign Society.

At 495 pages, it covers a lot of ground. The book is in the form of separate articles by different Sovereign Society writers grouped into themed chapters. You don’t need to read the entire book from end to end, but can simply read sections that you find interesting or relevant.

The book starts with an introduction to libertarian principles and discusses the sovereign individual movement, the idea of being a Perpetual Traveller and the contribution of Ayn Rand.

It also highlights the fact that many people are leaving the home countries due to high taxes and heavy handed governments, particularly following the “War on Terror” – this is something that doesn’t currently have a lot of mainstream visibility but in Australia, around 5% of the population is based offshore.

Subsequent chapters cover second passports and dual nationalities, alternative investments, offshore tax havens and business friendly jurisdictions, and personal security and privacy. In each case, detailed and specific tips are provided.

The overall theme is that to maximise your freedom and protect your assets, you need to think internationally and take advantage of the opportunities available to sophisticated investors by gaining knowledge. If you do nothing, you will continue to be milked.

I noticed that some of the articles are a few years old. I was initially concerned that the information may be out of date, but I checked up the detail and it was all still correct. Similarly, I was concerned that the material may be US centric but this is not the case either – whilst a lot of information is directed to US citizens, it is largely applicable to persons living in any high tax country (UK, Australia, EU etc), but remember to check your own local laws first.

Incidentally, each article includes useful details of service providers. I had a look at the prices offered by one of the recommended providers, and they were significantly lower than what I could find in my own searches for the same service.

There is a lot of material in this book. If you want an introduction to the whole sovereign individual paradigm, and how you can apply it in your own life by becoming internationally aware, I recommend this as an excellent introduction. You can buy your own copy from the Sovereign Society website, and they will promptly ship it out to you.
