Freedom book and movie list

This page has some books and films that I have found helpful. Read on to see the list.

Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand

+ The definitive expose of the principles in the site. An uncompromising novel that focuses on the free market system, logical thought, and the physical and spiritual consequences of ignoring either.

- Quite long at 655,000 words. Can be a bit wordy and heavy handed.

The Fountainhead by Ayn Rand

+ Contrasts the creator versus the imitator in an unequalled way. A blueprint for living

- Characters can be two dimensional.

A Lodging of Wayfaring Men by Paul Rosenberg

+ A contemporary novel that discusses possibilities for freedom through Internet encryption and alternative currencies – a superb book.

- Needs a little more editing.

Bye Bye Big Brother by Grandpa and others

+ Pragmatic, readable and interesting

- The computer section is a little bit out of date

The Offshore Road to Riches – by the Vera Verba Team

+ Practical ideas, even for those on a budget who want to escape the system. A good overview. Well written.

- Not much new here.

Serenity (DVD)

+ The thinking person’s science fiction

- Some bits are slightly corny

The Aviator (DVD)

+ Strong performances, shows good things about Howard Hughes instead of just focusing on weirdness

- Some historical inaccuracies

The Shawshank Redemption (DVD)

+ The definitive film on freedom, a great and inspiring film

- Some of the scenes of violence are quite graphic

This list is expanding as I add new books and films. Please add comments about any books or films you would like to see here.
