New series – Personal alchemy
What do we mean by alchemy, and how is it relevant to transforming ourselves and rediscovering our own authenticity?

What do we mean by alchemy, and how is it relevant to transforming ourselves and rediscovering our own authenticity?
The previous four postings have discussed personal transmutation of mercury, lead, tin and iron into gold. Each metal represents a particular mindset that must be transformed in order for the individual to attain their full freedom potential. This posting will discuss the transmutation of copper.
Previous postings in this series have discussed mercury, lead and tin as base metals that symbolise certain states of mind that hold us back from attaining our freedom, which the ancient alchemists equated with transmutation of base metals to gold. Each metal corresponds with a mythical Greek/Roman god and a planet. This posting will discuss iron, which is associated with the god and planet Mars.
In previous postings in this series on personal alchemy, I’ve discussed mercury, which represents the base metal which is one step before gold, and lead, which is the base metal which is the Prima Materia, or starting point in the transmutation to gold. In this posting I will discuss tin, which represents superficial contentment and happiness.
In my last posting, I wrote about alchemical transformation as a metaphor for the changes that an individual must go through to embrace truth, leave herd thinking and become self actualised. I previously focussed on the mercury stage, and will now discuss lead.
In a previous posting, I wrote about alchemy as a metaphor for personal transformation of the individual. In the same way that western alchemy sought to transmute base metals into gold, the goal of personal transmutation is to change us from being limited by herd thinking and mediocrity to a self actualized person who has transcended the boundaries imposed by society and culture. The transformed person thinks independently, unleashes their creative potential and is ready to be truly free.
