Subversive tip – Emergency kit photos
Here are some photos of some items from my emergency kit. I hope that you find them a useful overview of what to include in your kit.
This is the Leatherman multi-purpose tool closed up, with its handy case:
Here is the Leatherman tool open, showing a few of its many tools. The saw on the left hand side is sharp enough to cut through hardwood with ease. The whole tool is of excellent quality and strength:
Here is a high quality, small LED flashlight (the brand is LED Lenser):
Here is a lantern (by Coleman) that uses a small fluorescent tube (which results in longer battery life and higher reliability than an incandescent bulb). The top can collapse down for easy storage:
Here is a small but useful first aid kit (made by Equip) and Puratab water purification tablets:
This shows some of the contents of the first aid kit, including antiseptic cream, bandages of various sizes, eye drops in aseptic packaging and oral rehydration salts, Imodium and antibiotics (Norfloxacin) for recovery from food poisoning / contaminated water. The antibiotics are prescription only, so the first aid kit is available from a doctor. This kit is specialised for travel and doesn’t include full trauma recovery items (there is a bigger kit for that). It also includes instructions.
Here is a compact aluminised blanket which reflects body heat. This can be used to help someone suffering from hypothermia, as a ground sheet, as basic weather protection, to attract attention from rescuers or to collect rainwater:
The cover of the packet shows how it can be used, and the opposite side which can be used to attract attention:
As I pointed out in my earlier posting, there are more items that you should include, but these are some of the basics and what they look like.
