Subversive tip – Only read the sports pages

Today’s subversive tip is about how to read the newspaper.  You can become more subversive and improve your freedom and independence of thought by focussing only on the sports pages. That’s right, read them and be happy. How is this so?  Read on to find out more.

When you are reading the paper, you should be aware that most of it is not for information, but entertainment.  Some of this “entertainment” is actually thinly disguised political propaganda, and even uncritical reporting of outright lies (where were those weapons of mass destruction?).

The paper is divided into sections.  The first pages are for the most “news worthy” pages, which are the most sensational stories, including crime and political coups.  The middle sections have stories of petty crimes and small issues such as disputes and minor political matters, and also international issues.  The back section contains the sports pages.

I would put to you that the sports section is the only truly entertaining part of the paper.  Since much of the rest of the paper is of dubious entertainment value (unless you are amused by the antics of politicians and criminals), I suggest that you bypass the losers and their excuses, and at least get some real entertainment for your dollar by reading about some winners.

Sports people are dedicated to what they do, get paid on their results and get in the newspaper by achieving in at least one area of their lives  rather than in none.  If you must read the paper, start with the sports pages and read them, glance through the rest to marvel at what they see fit to print, and get the rest of your news from a more insightful and truthful source, such as one of the many independent news websites.

Critical thinking is important for the free person.  The prison that most people are in is a prison of the mind, and relies on maintaining certain beliefs.  These are reinforced in the media through slanted reporting.  By refusing to consume the lies and being taken in, and at least reading something that interests you, you can start to think for yourself again.
