What are you waiting for?
You never know, it could be great
Take a chance cause you might grow
Oh, oh, oh
…
What you waiting for?
Lyrics: What You Waiting For? Gwen Stefani
A bias to action separates those who talk and those who do. So what’s holding you back from being who you could be? What are you waiting to change? If you’re waiting on “someone” to make the changes that turn all the traffic lights in your street green before you get in your car, you might be sitting at home for a while, just wasting fuel and going nowhere.
I find the political process distasteful because people seeing it as absolving them from responsibility for their own decisions. Instead of going for it, they wait for someone else to change something – a politician, a company manager or a bureaucrat.
The state and corporations are not all powerful. In fact, they are incapable of solving the big problems, so you may as well start doing it yourself for your own life, and even for your local community. Don’t let them hold you back, work around the system – they aren’t all knowing or all powerful and there are many avenues to freedom still open. You can choose to think your own thoughts and make your own way in life.
For example, there is a “welfare state” that keeps us indifferent and the person who needs help on their knees. Don’t write a letter about it, take some personal responsibility and start looking to help one worthy person to get back on their feet. You’re not the welfare state, you don’t need to cast your ‘pearls before swine”, be selective in a way the state can never be.
Don’t let the state steal the future of our children by letting the “pension system” look after you in the future. You need to provide for your own independent future. Start this month – get a retirement plan in action.
There are people starving in another country. Is your response to send an email to your local politician? Or do you actually do something other than shunting electrons around the Internet and pull some cash out of your wallet this week and find out yourself where it can do the best work?
If you are stuck in a job where you can’t get up the ladder, firstly ask yourself whether you have what it takes, or are you happy to mark time. If you have what it takes to get ahead, what’s stopping you? If it is someone else, you don’t accept their power over you – you either go around them, or find another ladder, or make your own ladder. Start planning your exit now.
If you don’t like where you live, don’t try to lobby a senator then complain when nothing happens – go somewhere else, or change it yourself. If the police don’t protect you, learn kickboxing and surprise the next mugger with a roundhouse to the ribs – you can start learning this weekend. Want to help stop prejudice? Don’t march for new laws – get to know one person from another background this week and introduce them to your family.
If you want to be wealthy, don’t wait for your lotto numbers to come up – they are outside of your control. Start learning about money today, go to your library and check out some books.
Those who don’t want to change and make their lives better look for any reason not to, and invariably the reasons are external, or they will wait for a future time to avoid making the change. The free person makes up their own mind about what he or she wants, and doesn’t wait for the world to change – they take responsibility for making the changes themselves, not next week – NOW.
The time to make your life better, to do what is your purpose in life and to live the life you have always wanted is now. What are you waiting for?

Great blog and some good thoughts mate.
You are correct, people need to stop talking and taking action.
Sometimes talking is action though. Consider those who write. The pen is mightier than the sword. Luthers 95 thesis reveloutionised Western Society.
we need both. Words and action, coupled together. Finders, minders and grinders all come together to effect action.
But you are right. Words that do not inspire action, or atleast thought in others )or ourselves are empty and worthless).
It 3:30am … hope this makes some sense.
I will be back.
